Tuna and carrot biscuits for dogs
Share
Tuna and carrots can be a great combination for homemade dog biscuits! Here's a recipe you can try:
Ingredients:
2 ½ cups whole wheat flour (or alternative flours like oat or coconut flour for sensitive pups)
1 (5 oz) can flaked tuna in water (drained)
1 large egg
1 cup grated carrot
½ cup rolled oats (optional, for added texture)
Water or chicken broth (as needed)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, grated carrots, and rolled oats (if using).
- Flake the tuna with a fork and add it to the dry ingredients.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg. Gradually add water or chicken broth to the egg, a little at a time, until a well-mixed liquid forms.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix well until a dough forms. The dough will be slightly sticky, but you can add a bit more flour if it's too wet.
- Lightly flour a flat surface and roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thickness.
- Use cookie cutters or a knife to cut the dough into desired shapes.
- Place the treats on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and firm.
- Let the biscuits cool completely before giving them to your dog. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or refrigerate for up to two weeks.
Tips:
- Make sure the tuna is packed in water, not oil.
- You can adjust the amount of carrot depending on your dog's preference.
- For a softer treat, bake for a shorter time. For a crunchier treat, bake for a longer time.
- Let your dog know it's treat time with a fun word or sound!
- Remember, consult your veterinarian if you have any concerns about giving your dog homemade treats, especially if they have any allergies or dietary restrictions.
- You can add other dog-safe ingredients to your biscuits, such as shredded cheese or cooked chicken
Important Note: Make sure any ingredients you use are dog-safe. Avoid ingredients like grapes, raisins, chocolate, macadamia nuts, and onions, which can be toxic to dogs. Be sure to let the biscuits cool completely before giving them to your dog, as hot treats can burn their mouth
Enjoy baking for your furry friend!
